WUSPBA Consulting Sessions – Round 2
Good news! The consulting sessions with WUSPBA A-Panel judges that took place in April were a big hit and well-subscribed. Based on this success, we are offering Round 2 during the period May 30 to June 7.
The objective is to provide a non-competitive, consultative forum outside of your regular pupil-teacher sessions. It is not in any way intended to replace that relationship or to become a de facto lesson. It is somewhat like a contest, but with no rankings or prizes and more conversation.
How it Works:
Each judge has agreed to provide up to three hours of consultation time, in 15-minute time slots. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The 15 minutes is to be used for a performance by the individual and then critique by the judge over an on-line communication platform that is amenable to both parties (e.g., Skype, FaceTime, Zoom, Google, etc.).
The sessions work best when the performer has pre-selected their tunes and informed the judge ahead of time what they intend to play. Competition tunes and sets are best, as they provide the most “meat” for evaluation and comment. It is also recommended to keep the total playing time to no more than five minutes or so, and to have your instrument warmed up, tuned and ready to play. Pipers can play either on pipes or practice chanter, but drummers should use a practice pad or a damping device on their drum, given the peculiarities of typical audio settings and devices.
How to sign up:
- Go to WUSPBA Consulting Sessions (CTRL+click to access link) as soon as possible but no later than Wednesday May 27 to sign up FOR ONE TIME SLOT ONLY. Please include your full name, WUSPBA number or Band Name, and your email address. No registration fee is required!
- The judge will contact you so you can jointly decide which communication platform will work best. This is also an opportunity to let the judge know what you’d like to play.
- Get ready to play music!
