In light of recent events the WUSPBA Executive Committee join with the other pipe band associations and many throughout this nation who are deeply saddened at recent evidences of racism and a blatant disregard for human life.  The reality that some would deny others respect and the most basic of freedoms because of the color of his or her skin is unacceptable. 

Our founding fathers stated, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that ALL MEN are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The United States was founded by men of many nations and backgrounds.   It was founded on the principle that civil rights is not a political issue but a moral issue and that the rights of every person are diminished when the rights of one person is threatened.  

The Western United States Pipe Band Association in its current Bylaws found in Article 20. Statement of Non-Discrimination:

77. Provisions: There shall be no discrimination in the application of the provisions of these bylaws or Contest Rules with regard to race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, or status as a veteran. 

78. Application of the Provisions: The provisions of these bylaws and  Contest Rules shall be applied equally to all members without regard to marital status, handicap, status as a disabled veteran, age, or citizenship.

The Western United States Pipe Band Association can only be as great as the sum of its members.  We call on every member of our association to build fundamental respect for the human dignity of every human soul, regardless of their color, creed, or cause.
